Building a Scalable Design System for a 300+ Page Website
The Project
Reimagine Arizona Game and Fish Department's digital ecosystem by transforming a complex, 300+ page website into a scalable, user-centered experience that better serves hunters, anglers, boaters, campers, conservationists, and the agency's long-term business goals.
The Challenge
Years of organic growth had resulted in more than 300 pages spread across 40+ unique layouts, creating duplicated content, inconsistent user experiences, and an increasingly difficult platform to maintain.
The fragmented structure made it challenging for visitors to quickly find information, while internal teams struggled to publish new content efficiently without introducing additional complexity. The agency needed more than a visual refresh, they needed a digital foundation that could scale.
The Strategy
Rather than redesigning individual pages, the focus shifted to solving the underlying system.
A comprehensive UX strategy centered on information architecture, content strategy, and reusable design systems was developed. A full content audit and analysis of user needs across five primary audiences identified common content patterns and opportunities to simplify the experience without sacrificing flexibility.
Instead of designing hundreds of unique pages, a modular framework was created that empowered internal teams to build new content consistently while preserving a cohesive user experience.
The Solution
Designed a scalable component library and flexible template system that reduced more than 40 page layouts to just 12 adaptable templates capable of supporting every major content type across the site.
The new information architecture simplified navigation for visitors while giving internal stakeholders an intuitive publishing framework that improved governance, reduced maintenance, and created a consistent experience across the entire website.
The result was a digital platform designed not just for launch, but for years of sustainable growth.
